Lentilky

Toronto, ON

This is Lentilky, a gift from my friend Arwen. His name is taken from the Czech Republic equivalent of the candy “Smarties,” a slightly faded version of the real thing.

Lentilky was integral to the remounting of the colossal show “Angels in America” at Soulpepper Theatre. Through rehearsals we quite often found ourselves in stitches despite the complex and highly emotional scenes in the play. Laughter is so important in mounting a production like this.

When I see Lentilky’s smiling face above my desk it all floods back. The laughter, the tears, the beauty of it all. I have never felt so closely connected to a group of people as I did on this show. It has changed us all.
