At the end of my high school career, when everyone is saying goodbyes and farewells, a grade 10 girl comes up to me, gives me a hug and gives me a letter and a small brown paper-wrapped gift. Inside is the little figurine of a black bear and a smaller bear. The letter described how I was like a big brother to her. I never saw or felt that way because I was just being me. I was there for her the way I thought best and talked to her how I talked to everyone.
I see now that who you are and what you are is different to everyone. That it’s important to validate that and to know. I see these two bears and smile because of the lesson she gave me.
